Nathaniel Halter didn't set out to build a landscaping company. He set out to buy a car.
At 14, Nate was already planning to buy his first car. McDonald's never called him back, so he grabbed his dad's push mower and started knocking on doors around the neighborhood. His aunt made the first batch of flyer, and he and his younger brother handed them out on foot. Because he couldn't drive yet, his mom would drop them off at the job, and when the work was done? Nate would ring her phone twice and then hang up - the universal trick every kid growing up in the early 2000's learned to avoid paying for phone minutes.
By sophomore year he had saved enough for his first truck, a '91 Chevy he still has parked out back. Senior year, he was up at 4:30am to get properties done before school and working past dark with a spotlight mounted to the truck to finish the schedule. Spring was the toughest stretch, when baseball season and mowing season hit at the same time. He went to Albright College for a year and spent most of it writing estimates in Spanish class.
Eventually it became clear that building the business wasn't a side project anymore. It was the main gameplan.
Since then, Halter Landscaping has grown into a full-service operation with an experienced crew, a fleet of equipment, and a large facility on Route 422 in Douglassville. We serve residential homeowners, commercial properties, school districts, and municipalities across Berks County and surrounding communities. We've maintained apartment complexes and baseball diamonds, done spring cleanups for long-time customers, and taken on first-time clients who just moved into the area and needed someone reliable.
Today, Halter Landscaping is part of a broader family of companies — including Halter Materials & Landscape Supply, Halter Tree Service, and TriCounty Landscape Creations — that together cover nearly every aspect of outdoor property care across the region. Some of those brands were built from scratch. Others were acquired when the right opportunity came along. The portfolio keeps growing, and so does our commitment and dedication to our customers.
The crew at Halter takes care of customers' properties the way they'd want someone to take care of their own. It also shows in how we communicate. When you call, you reach a person who knows the business and can actually help. That's been the standard since day one, and we've worked hard to keep it as the company has grown.
